Activity: Animagus Voting Discussion

We know that Animagus Voting can be a time-consuming, complicated thing, with so many animals and species to choose from and so many places to check. It can be especially hard when you really don't know much about animals at all. But it's really, really not that scary! We promise ;-)

So this activity is all about Animagus Voting! If you vote on Animagus apps regularly, tell us how you go on about it! Where do you start? Do you get a ~vibe from an applicant and then go off that? Do you look at their preferred weather or time of day? Do you take their appearance or pictures into consideration? And where do you look? Do you go to wiki straight away or do you know some animal resource pages we might not know about yet?
And if you DON'T vote for Animagus, if you've never tackled it before, tell us what kept you from it and what we could do to help you try it. If you're new at HiH, tell us what you WOULD do, maybe check out some apps for ideas.

Please make your initial comment at least 250 words long, so it can count for points. 10 points per initial comment, 2 points for any substantial additional comment (30 points cap). Don't forget to sign with your name & house! (you don't have to sign with your animagus form, since this is an activity open for everyone).

We know that voting can be intimidating (I didn't vote for Amimagus either at first, until I had former Animagus mod peyton07 help me through my first voting, which made it so much less complicated :D) and hope that this post will result in a lively discussion about how to vote on Animagus, what your different strategies are and what tips you can share. We hope that it helps you and that more of you will tackle Animagus voting in the future :D

Details: We have extremely gorgeous headers for both

hih_animagus and

hih_wilderness (thanks to

blackestbird, who won the contest some terms ago!). However, the banners displayed in the profiles of both communities still reflects the former community layouts.

For this activity, we require two banners - one for Animagus and one for Wilderness. They must display the community's name, 'part of Hogwarts is Home' or something similar, and be exactly 500 pixel in width. All other details, including height of the banner, is entirely up to you.

As this activity is something that would have effect on the public areas of the communities, this activity is open to all Hogwarts is Home members. For members of

hih_wilderness, this activity counts towards participation in Animagus of the Month as well as Pack of the Month.

Activity: How to Choose an Animal
Points: Participation 10pts/5kts, Additional comment: 2pts/1kt. 10 point bonus for animagi.

Everyone has their own way of reading an application, picking up what to look for in a form and narrowing it down to one creature. But, lets open it up - share your secrets, your tips, everything. New voters can learn from the masters, and perhaps even the experienced voters can pick up a thing or two.

Activity: Pack Icons
Points: 50/40/30/10 points & 20/15/10/5 knuts, respectively
Deadline: 15 March 2010, 12 PM EST

Submit a template for pack icons using any three current packs as examples. The icon must be 100 x 100 pixels and smaller than 40 kb so as to be able to be used on livejournal. The pack's name must be easily read.

If you win, you will be responsible for making one for each pack as well as sending me the .psd with anything I need to make ones for new packs that form (such as fonts).

Activity: Banner Maker Challenge!
Points: 10 points/5 knuts for submitting two banners. The top three places will then receive 4 pts per banner made, which will add up to quite a lot of points! Top three placers will also earn 20/15/10 knuts.(This has been discussed with Sas but the final approval is still pending, so there's a slim chance this may be tweaked.)
Deadline: Get your submissions in by Friday, 13 November @ 8 PM CST.

As I'm sure you've noticed, we're a bit backlogged on animagus banners, and we feel that a shiny new design is in order. Care to help us out with that? :D
