March Activity #1: Pack Icons

Points: 50/40/30/10 points & 20/15/10/5 knuts, respectively
Deadline: 15 March 2010, 12 PM EST

Submit a template for pack icons using any three current packs as examples. The icon must be 100 x 100 pixels and smaller than 40 kb so as to be able to be used on livejournal. The pack's name must be easily read.

If you win, you will be responsible for making one for each pack as well as sending me the .psd with anything I need to make ones for new packs that form (such as fonts).

I don't use Photoshop. Is there an alternative to send?

Basically I need to be able to edit the template. I only have photoshop, so as long as it can be edited (with layers for what needs editing), that will work.

I use PaintshopPro, which doesn't support the .psd file type. Am I still allowed to enter?

"Submit a template for pack icons using any three current packs as examples" Does this mean we need to submit 3 icons? We have more than 3 packs, don't we, which is why I'm asking :D

The winner will need to make one for each current pack we have, but I didn't want everyone to have to make that many icons.

maybe they can just be held responsible to make any additional ones in the future. If they can't make that commitment, don't enter?

No one can truly make that commitment 100%. Something can come up out of the blue. I don't want to risk that kind of situation.

Can Photoshop read .xcf files? I on;y have Gimp so that's the only edit-able files I can save it as.

I am not sure. Can you email me (falawen at gmail dot com) a sample random .xcf, so I can see if it can?

Correct, just the pack name needs to be on there. Name/house/hih is optional, though honestly I'd prefer not to have house (as packs are specifically among other things for HU).

Any of the current packs listed in the Pack Registry can be chosen as your examples (three). A template is the basic form for the icons that you make, where the text and or something else may then get changed for each one. They are usually psds if you use photoshop, though if you have another format you use that can be edited for layers and edited IN photoshop, that is welcome as well. Essentially, the template is everything I need to make an icon for a new pack after it comes into existence.
